Details of other therapies or psychotherapies provided by the service:
Cuan Dara is an intensive therapeutic detoxification unit for the opiate dependant individual. The programme is designed to provide a residential detoxification programme as well as a foundation for further recovery. Clients admitted to Cuan Dara have been unable to detoxify within a community setting and have recognised a need for additional support in order to make the transition to drug free living.
As recovery from dependence is a process, Cuan Dara recognises the biopsychosocial needs of our client group and has developed a programme which attempts to address these needs on both an individual basis and through group work and developing a healthy recovery focused, supportive group dynamic.
Within the first stage of the programme the client goes through a carefully monitored process of Detoxification. 1:1 Interventions such as Counselling and Motivational Interviewing and Solution focused approaches are utilised throughout the programme to assist the client in adapting to a drug free lifestyle and overcoming feelings of low self worth, guilt and shame.
Within the second stage of the programme the focus shifts to planning and maintaining long term change. Supports are at this point utilised. Referrals to the appropriate programmes ( Rehab & Integration, Keltoi , Soilse , Coolmine, High Park, Tullow farm etc.) would be sent according to the identified need of each individual client via a client centred, solution focused approach. It is the goal of the team within Cuan Dara that at the point of Graduation that every client has the strongest possible foundation for the rest of the recovery process. It is hoped that every Client who accesses Cuan Dara should leave with increased self awareness, a heightened self esteem, a good knowledge and understanding of potential triggers and risks and a solid, realistic plan with identified a supports in place.
Cuan Dara also makes provision for clients wishing to stabilise their drug use. The Stabilisation programme is four weeks in duration. Clients wishing to stabilise remain on methadone but are safely detoxified from another drug, i.e, alcohol, cocaine, crack, benzodiazepines, sleeping tablets etc. Clients presenting for stabilisation are often pregnant and require specific interventions and liaison with the relevant drug liaison midwife
